Williamette Valley Averaen Chardonnay 2021 750 ml
Averæn Willamette Valley Chardonnay 2021 is an elegant Oregon Chardonnay crafted to showcase the freshness, texture, and distinctive cool-climate character of the Willamette Valley. Made from 100% Chardonnay, this expressive white wine balances precise acidity with impressive structure and depth.
For the 2021 vintage, Averæn focused on fruit from the Fern Creek and Giving Tree vineyards, both situated in the Mount Pisgah area of Oregon's Willamette Valley. These vineyard sites combine distinctive marine sedimentary and volcanic soils with cooling influences that encourage a long growing season and help preserve the grapes' natural freshness.
The wine undergoes native yeast fermentation in a combination of oak and stainless steel, followed by partial malolactic conversion. It is then aged for 10 months in tank and barrel, including a small proportion of new French oak barrels. This thoughtful approach builds texture and complexity without overwhelming the Chardonnay's bright fruit and natural acidity.
In the glass, Averæn 2021 Chardonnay displays a vibrant citrus-driven profile led by lemon and lime, complemented by intriguing notes of marzipan and marigold. The palate combines crisp acidity with satisfying texture, length, and structure, leading to an elegant, mineral-driven finish.
Its combination of freshness and texture makes this Willamette Valley Chardonnay an excellent companion for seafood, roasted poultry, creamy pasta, soft cheeses, and other dishes that complement bright, balanced white wines. It can also be enjoyed on its own when a refined, cool-climate Chardonnay is called for.
